Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2012) - A United Launch Alliance Atlas V stands ready for launch at Space Launch Complex-41 with the United States Navy’s MUOS-1 satellite. Launch is set for Thursday, Feb. 16 at 5:46 p.m. EST. MUOS is a next-generation narrowband tactical satellite communications system designed to significantly improve communications for U.S. forces on the move. MUOS will provide military users 10 times more communications capability over existing systems, including simultaneous voice, video and data, leveraging 3G mobile communications technology.

From a technical standpoint, it's also the largest Atlas to fly to date, a combination of the 551 and the fairing extension taking it up to 206 feet.

The countdown is underway and the team is not working any technical issues at this time. Weather remains at 80 percent chance of favorable conditions for launch at 5:46 p.m.

Centaur LOX into topping... and now at flight level.

Low-level wind shear is currently red for the beginning of the window, but that's why many balloons are released throughout the count.
