Has anyone been to RKK Museum to see Vostock 1?
« on: 11/07/2011 01:03 pm »
Hi,
Please can i ask has anyone been to the RKK Museum in Russia to see Vostock 1? It looks amazing being as you are allowed to actually touch it.
Rather annoyingly, i think there is a minimum of 10 non-Russians allowed in one group although if there is less than 10 you pay for the full 10, apparently!
Anyway, id love to know if anyone has been and what it was like?

Vostok 1 is at the Energia Museum, I've been there often as once with groups. How it is? "Touching the face of space history". I don't know anything of regulations with non russians, but the price for a visit is the same for 1 or 10 persons.

Brilliant!!
Please could you tell me what you meant by you used to work there, in a manner of speaking? Also is Vostok as small as reported, ie- Does it look like it would be cramped?

Let's just say that I spent a lot of time at that place.

I am attaching an image of the Vostok capsule from the Memorial Museum that shows the interior a little better.

I send you a picture of a Vostok mock-up on display in the Jitomir Cosmonautics Museum. Jitomir is the birthplace of Sergueï Koroliov, in Central Ukraine.

What is the difference/s between the two Vostok capsules in your first photo?

On the right : Vostok (Gagarin's spacecraft, often eroneously called "Vostok-1" in the West).
On the left : Vostok-6 (Terechkova's spacecraft).
