Following successful stand-alone testing of both the Sentinel-5p spacecraft and the Rockot launcher the launch campaign today reached a key phase: Joint Operations.

This is the point after which the spacecraft teams (ESA, Airbus Defence and Space) coordinate activities to mate their respective parts together resulting with the Ascent Unit when the spacecraft is mounted on the upper stage and the fairing fitted.

Today the team achieved the first part of this mating the spacecraft on the adapter.
This was a very delicate operation as the now fuelled satellite was lifted from the stand on the fuelling platform onto the adapter.
The lengthy process of installing the clamp band and umbilicals then commenced finishing about 11 pm. A long but successful day for the team.

With the satellite now connected to the adaptor it was the turn of the electrical team to check the satellite was alive and well. The satellite happily talked to us proving all was well.

October 2:
This was a very busy day for the team, initially getting the satellite ready before transferring it to to a dolly which would allow it to be moved into clean room 101B where the upper stage was waiting to receive it.
Once moved the satellite was lifted up onto the upper stage and the lifting brackets removed.

October 3:
Anticipation filled the air as we started the final run down to encapsulation.
The satellite was electrically tested to check everything was good before mating to the upper stage. Then finally after doing the final cover removals and inspection agreement was made for encapsulation.
Finally a very emotional moment for the team as the fairing halves are closed and the satellite is seen for the last time.

The space forces have finalised to fairing installation and today have fitted the fairing logo’s. Once installed a special event takes place where the team signs the logo’s. It was very moving to read some of the comments and to see the reaction of the team. To further enhance the atmosphere Del played the bagpipes. Truly a memorable experience.

Rockot Launch Dress Rehearsal: Practicing the Countdown Procedures

Three days before lift-off, the "Sentinel-5p on Rockot" mission took another important step towards launch. As two complex space vehicles, the Sentinel-5p satellite and its Rockot carrier together with their ground systems, need to be readily configured for flight at a precise point in time, detailed operational procedures need to be followed in order to guarantee a successful launch countdown.

The launch dress rehearsal is the opportunity to verify the consistency of countdown procedures and it ensures that the launch teams practice their roles during the big day. As part of the countdown, the Sentinel-5p satellite sitting on its rocket was activated and gradually prepared into launch configuration - just as it was about to take off on Rockot. Part of the rehearsal was ESA's European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, which will take control over Sentinel-5p once in orbit.

At the same time, the launch teams executed the countdown process from the Mission Control Center at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. As a result: The "Sentinel-5p on Rockot" team is GO for launch.

Lift-off minus 2 Days: Rockot Launcher Fueled

Access to the launch pad is now restricted after the propellant loading for the Rockot launcher had started. As a result of yesterday’s launch vehicle activities, the Rockot has several dozen tons of liquid fuel and oxidizer components on board – enough energy to carry Sentinel-5p into orbit.

There is not much left to do than counting down the time to October 13th, 09:27:44 UTC (which corresponds to 11:27:44 Central European Summer Time) when lift-off for “Sentinel-5p on Rockot” is expected.

09:27:30?

Depends on what you count as a liftoff.

Depends on what you count as a liftoff.
There is sometimes confusion, time for ignition or liftoff. But a difference of 14 seconds?

But a difference of 14 seconds?

It is normal for Rokot - between gyroscopes readiness and liftoff.

Any detailed launch timeline for this one? I can't seem to find it on ESA's site.

Dutch minister of Economic affairs visited ESTEC this morning... there is a big instrument flying on Sentinel 5p. He also talked to the control room in Darmstad.
