.........well I don't know what CASIC is smokin' about, but there are rumors out there that I have seen that besides KZ-1A and KZ-11, there's another launcher by CASIC that will fly very soon, one that will reuse the name of the KT series. Except for one leaked slide showing something like a 200 kg payload capacity, I don't think I have seen anything about it.

Even more curiously latest rumors point to its 1st launch within this month.....in fact it was supposed to go up late last year (!) if the rumors are right. No idea on what it's launching, how it looks like, where it goes and where it goes to......

There's just too little to go on so maybe if this rumor isn't correct maybe I can turn it into a CASIC space activities thread - I just saw a paper by them that also claims that they are developing eletro-magnetic rail launchers for rockets and stratosphere flying ships within the next few years (!). (*) Not something anyone would expect from one of China's big ICBM/IRBM contractors.....  :-X

Gunter's page show that CASIC had the JL-2/DF-31 based KT-2 project underway but development was believed to have stopped when CZ-11 flew (http://space.skyrocket.de/directories/launcher_china.htm)

KT-1 series was cancelled following 2 unsuccessful flights. KT-1 was 100kg payload whereas KT-2 was planned to support a range of 200kg to over 400kg. For reference CZ-11 is designed for 700kg with a future motor upgrade targeting 1000kg.

Chinaspaceflight.com is refering the launch of the Tiankong-1 satellite using a KT-2A launch vehicle on February from Jiuquan.

Someone once posted this on 9ifly but even those there have doubts on the date and the satellite (never heard of that one), and even the rocket name was in doubt too (the Chinese rarely uses Latin letters in their rocket's official Chinese name).

I suggest wait for any further news before really trusting this.  :-X

In my memory, very long ago, a insider had said something about this,
Some are bound for happiness, some are bound to glory, some are bound to live with less, who can tell your story?

These were outdated plans if the 200 kg capacity is to be believed (IIRC these were larger than that).  :-X

Center is 109 km from Jiuquan for the first area and 543 km for the second which is different from KZ-1, KZ-1A and CZ-11.
