I was just about to comment that we'd probably have to wait for non-Elon Hawthorne work hours. I guess this was important ;)

Yes it is amazing, also the footage of the Grasshopper failure.

Fantastic video and loved the Monty Python references :D

* F9R Dev 1  ;)

Yes - never realised how significantly it went out of parameters.

Interesting also to see how the FTS kills an F9: hopefully we won't see that again...

You really have to give credit to a company that not only owns their failures but makes entertainment out of them.

It was also a good idea to include the two successful land and sea landings. :)

Lot's of good stuff in this video.

I love the spinning COPV on deck of JRTI around the 1:01 mark (CRS-6 landing attempt).

The first time I saw this video, I was totally amazed at the brand-new camera footage of these failures.

Not that I prefer failures over successes, but I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Speaking of that one, I can't remember what kind of radar glitch happened on the ship. Was it ever specified?

Can we set up a thread to identify each of these, along with a brief statement about what other footage we may/may not have?  There are a couple of ASDS landings I think we didn't previously have, and I'd be curious about lining up the snarky descriptions in this video against our best guesses about the mission before this.

I don't think it was ever specified but judging from the hard impact it was likely a spurious return from the altitude radar.

No, if I understand correctly, the radar glitch was in the rocket. One of the legs landed first, essentially spending all of the crush core and making the rocket unstable when landed. Thus, the movement of the drone ship (waves etc) on the return journey made the rocket move around, the same way a ladder does at a slope..

In the end, the rocket rested at the deck lip, and the retrieval team was able to come aboard and secure it after they made sure it stopped moving around.

NSF Video Recovery footage makes it in there too! ;D

Sadly, uncredited but still cool.

I think the dancing rocket on deck is my fave part of a vid that has a LOT to love...

The new footage was awesome, but I wonder what happened to the on ship SES-9 video? Did it get Falcon Punched on the deck? The Bulgaria-sat landing would have been good to see as well as some oh--no-no-no-no-YESS material. Oh well.

Agreed, great new video.   Amazing video quality.

Some day wells see fairing videos too.   But long after they've nailed it down.

Thaicom booster sliding around was the most amazing.

This also serves as a cautionary tale (or even a deterrent) for rivals seeking to emulate SpaceX. They will have to be prepared to fail, probably several times, and in public to some degree. After a string of a dozen consecutive successful landing attempts, this is a good time to remind everybody that the learning curve was long and full of RUDs. I think Blue Origin will stick with it, but how many New Glenn boosters will they lose in the process? And will there be any others willing to try?
