That is the greatest Space Shuttle Engine Installed Video I have ever seen. I think this is the first video of STS-135 Mission.

Nope. There's video for ET-138's rollout at and departure from MAF; ET-138's arrival and offload at KSC. There's also video of ET-138's lift into its checkout cell in the VAB -- all video for STS-335.

Great questions, Philip! :)   I loved the systems AOA abort question and Chris Ferguson's answer.  Gave some insight into what the sims are like from the CDR and CAPCOM perspective.

Can always count on the NSF contingent to ask a technically oriented question. :)
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. -- Douglas Adams

Yeah, that was a great answer.  The question was kind of obvious listening to that last sim run, since Mr. Ferguson was Ascent CapCom for the runs I saw a couple of years ago.

Observing the sim runs was (and is) fascinating, but MOD and PAO allowing us to talk with the flight control and training team, along with the flight crew was also very valuable.

It seemed like an unusual day for almost everyone, as I think the flight crew were the only people not taking pictures.  Flight controllers and training and support team were taking pictures of the media blob, as it probably doesn't show up like that very often any more.  (Probably for STS-114.)

FYI, the replay of a part of today's rendezvous sim is running on NTV now.  They started just prior to the MC1 burn (so after TI).  This started more than an hour after the original schedule, so not sure how much we'll get, but this is an all-day sim for the flight crew, flight control team, and training team.

We (the media mob) didn't quite make it until the simulated docking...they were holding at 30 feet due to a question about the Station's attitude determination when we left the viewing room.

Just wondering if anyone around KSC and/or JSC might have heard or might hear whether anyone working the launch in the LCC or the mission (especially ascent/entry) in the FCR was in those rooms working on STS-1. Just looking for common threads that tie the first to the last.

STS-135: The Mission.
They included a few moments of baby Atlantis at Palmdale in April, 1985, towards the end.

ESA Euronews: Space Shuttle - the final voyage

A chapter in the history of space closes with the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis, marking the retirement of the Space Shuttle. It is a 30-year story that has included great moments of triumphs, but also of tragedy.

re: Ascent video

Why does NASA omit certain things in the ascent video. There seems to be somethings that tend to get omitted more often than other things. It would have been interesting to hear the comm loops during the cabin stretch pressure alarm. Has anybody else noticed this pattern?

Many thanks for the booster ship video!  I was going to ask if you would be able to post it but figured if you hadn't recorded it no sense in asking after it aired.

The videos posted here also help me actually get some work done and not worry so much about recording it myself.  My wife appreciates that the cable DVR isn't maxed out!  I had still had some recordings from STS-134 on it until I deleted them because I can get them here.

STS-135 RPM - not captured in HD by the camera on the ISS, but it was captured from NASA HD channel so it might be the cleanest available video copy of the RPM.

Echoing Stuart above, thanks John44 for your continued service to the community.  Over the past few years your site and NSF here have completely changed my space fan experience.  And I'm glad to see that you recovered from your outage today!

And thanks rsmath for the HD clips :)

PSA #1: EST does NOT mean "Eastern Time".  Use "Eastern" or "ET" instead, all year round, and avoid this common error.  Google "EST vs EDT".
PSA #2: It's and its: know the difference and quietly impress grammar pedants.  Google "angry flower its" .  *** See profile for two more NSF forum tips. ***

rsmath,

A special request to you.  In the past you provided extended video coverage (non-hd) for EVA's.  For this last Shuttle landing, would it be possible to provide continuous coverage from de-orbit firing to after the shuttle astronauts have left the runway?

The last landing I would love to re-live in it's entirety.

Thanks,

I'll have to see how big of file that might be -- it might be some unwieldy GB figure (the Crew Resource Reel I'm sitting on to post when things quiet down is over 3GB and that's like 2-3 nights of uploading alone!)

If you can give me a time estimate of how long that is (i.e. how many hours it takes from derobit burn to driving off in astrovan), I can do a quick GB estimate for finished filesize.

Sorry I was at work.  Missed the entire landing event.  I'm finding a good sampling of TV coverage through NTV, and other sites to capture the events leading to landing.  Being that it would entail so much capacity, I'll remove my request to you.   Thanks for the support you've given us over the years.  Appreciate all the videos you captured for us.

John44, do you (or anyone) please have the Post-Landing News Conference with Gerst and Cabana and the Mikes, as well as the Post-Landing Crew News Conference? Thank you in advance.

I know they ran all afternoon yesterday, as I streamed NasaTV all day at the office, but I never saw either in their entirety with all my running in and out, and telephone interruptions. I got the same bits and pieces of the first, but very little of the second.

I did a calculation and came up with 8 GB if I did it in my usual 5 megabit H264 AVC HD format.

I think I may do "poll for deorbit burn to astronauts driving away from the SLF" clip in SD widescreen'ish resolution and get it down to a manageable 2 GB or so.   The actual landing and replays will still be done in HD as separate files.

Local TV station WWL in New Orleans produced this video of STS-135 Launch. The video is well done. It begins after the back and forth between the reporter and the anchor. Got me emotional again :'(http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/Sunday-Edition-Shuttle-Atlantis-126088254.html

Just a little thing. @ 6:32 the commentator says "good view in the logistic module" but what you actually see is Kibo, the Japan Science Module.

John,

I see on your site that some of these and other recent videos don't come up when you click the 'STS-135 mission videos'.  Is this because they aren't tagged?

I was able to appreciate this last mission more because I wasn't trying to figure out how to record everything and was going to start downloading stuff next week.  I just want to make sure I don't miss anything you might have posted.

Extremely high-res (5K) footage of the launch, downsampled to HD, shot in 96fps on a RED EPIC.  Few different versions of the same footage:
